The A-List blogging sector is a house of cards. I do believe that as people like Griz and Vic gain in ranks, there will be a serious clash between them and the traditional A-listers.
And for the first time we’re starting to see the worlds collide, albeit not at all how I thought.
Let me back track. An internet marketer named Lis Sowerbutts (greatest last name ever?) writes a post stating that Site Build it is a scam. The owner of SBI, Ken Envoy, strikes back with an eloquent attack on her character, her morality and even hints at legal action.
Ken is one of the best A-Listers I’ve ever seen. He’s able to rally his troops in a professional manner while making Lissie so scared she posts on TAA’s forums asking for advice. This caught the attention of the higher ups in our internet marketing circle. Not soon after Griz gets uncharacteristically fired up with his review of site build it. And of course Vic can’t miss out on the party and he manages to shake the cobwebs off of Blogger unleashed and throw out his own post about site build it being a scam. All we need is Court’s Keyword Sniping posts and it’s just like the old days.
The irony here is that Ken was actually too good at what he did. Scaring Lis into asking for advice sparked the higher ups to get involved. Now Ken’s got at least a hundred (I wonder how many of us there are?) internet marketers out to bust his easy money.
Now I have to say I’m not surprised this happened–I just figured it would happen to an A-Lister, not an outdated Guru. I almost feel bad for ol’ Doc Envoy–poor guy caught Griz and Vic on a bad day. Any other day would have been a “don’t worry about it”. Maybe Griz got a heapload of spam that day or not enough sleep. Either way he had the little extra push to do something about it.
And now Ken is stuck. If he actively seeks to deny all of our claims he will prolong this debate on the value of his site. And when your business isĀ a house of cards you need to pick your fights carefully. Ken’s clientele are newbies. They didn’t know how to set up a free blogger blog or get hosting and set up a wordpress site, so $300/year per site sounded like a good deal.
So when they see Griz making money with a free blogger blog and a $3k adsense paycheck/month they will be seriously pissed.
And what is Ken supposed to say? Griz is trying to sucker you into free blogger blogs because he secretly works for Google? How in the hell do you make a guy doing a good deed seem evil?
So Ken went the route of damage control–”OK SBI guys, let’s all go back to our side of the internet and forget all this. They aren’t worth our effort”. Now he’s still got the problem of us dominating the SERPs. He’ll of course try to lock his current clientele down but its inevitable–future SBI sales are going to tank. Sorry Ken, time to start a new business. Might I recommend learning how to make money?

Hi MJ
An interesting take on things. One lot of people using another lot of gullible people to finance their lifestyle ? I guess the Internet is just the same as the ole Wild West ! It will be interesting to see if this has any long-term effect.
Hey thanks for the post - I missed it first time around - you are now on page 2 for my name - so you must have some authority LOL! The last name - blame my father - I do - obscure Lancashire dialect I believe.
